Here is a very quick and easy tutorial for making an altered matchbox. The one I'm using is a 40ct because this is what we find here in Canada but a 32ct one will fit pecfectly too.
You'll need:
- 1 empty 32ct (or 40ct) matchbox
- 1 scrapped matchbox (for the dimensions)
- hot glue gun
- cardstock or scrapbooking papers
- scissor
- acrylic paint
- stickers, glitter, fabric, indian ink and more to embellish
I use a real matchbox for each creation as the matchbox cardstock is much stronger than other type of papers.
1 - Prepare your hot glue gun.
2 - Open the exterior part of one scrapped matchbox to get a pattern. Cut the dimensions directly on the paper you would like to use to cover the matchbox. (Keep this pattern as you'll use it each time for making another matchbox of the same dimension.) see picture 2
3 - Roll over the paper around the matchbox just to make sure the dimensions are ok and to determinate which part will be the front cover and the back.
If you want to paint directly on your matchbox you should do it right now before gluing the paper around the exterior part.
4 - Apply hot glue directly on the exterior part of the matchbox, side by side, and glue your paper all around it. I use to start with one of the two side, in the middle of my paper, then the front, the back and finally the end of my paper cover. see picture below
5 - Open your matchbox by removing the interior part. Paint this piece with acrylic paint and let it dry completely.
6 - Embellish your matchbox using stickers, glitter, colored papers, drawings and more and fill it with tiny goodies.
It's done :)
